2025 Design In's and Out's

Happy new year, friends 🎇

I hope everyone got to spend some time over the holidays not designing. As a creative, it’s sooo important to slow down and reset your blank canvas!

I’m currently writing this newsletter at my parents’ place in Thailand and eating all my favorite Thai food.

I mean have y’all tried Boat Noodles? It’s amaaaazing. 😋

To start off the new year, I want to talk about the habits (good and bad ones) we designers have — the stuff you have to adopt and the things you gotta drop. The in’s and out’s for designers! You’ll see these in a bit.

To add to your new year’s resolution, knowing your design strengths might also come in handy! Check out this design personality quiz that tells you your design constellation.

It’s quick, fun, and perfect for helping you discover — or refine — your personal style. Here are my results! Pretty on point tbh.

Now let’s get 2025 started with fresh ideas and tools to level up your design game, shall we?

〰️ A new Magic Mouse

2024’s top rebrands and logo redesigns
Some of the changes were huge, like Jaguar's new minimalist logo reflecting their shift towards electric vehicles, and some like Herman Miller and Lyle’s Golden Syrup doing their first rebrand in ages! Know the rationale behind these makeovers and get a whole lot of inspo!

A new floating “Play Something” button on YouTube?
YouTube has been testing a button that picks a random video for you on its app on Android. Well it’s not that new — previously it was a banner. Do you think a floating button is better than a banner?

Finally, Apple’s Magic Mouse is getting a redesign
Say goodbye to bottom charging ports! The new design will be having a big focus on ergonomics and gestures. Oh and also, rumors say it might come with voice control? Do you think we might be seeing a new keyboard design too? 👀
